Residents of Adingo Village in Wasio Location, Suna East Sub-County, are living in fear after a 37-year-old businessman was shot by two unidentified men near his home.
The businessman, identified as Outi, was reportedly returning home from his business premises when he was attacked a few metres from his gate.
According to police, the two suspects arrived on a motorcycle and approached Outi from behind. When he turned and asked who they were, one of them allegedly claimed they were his guests.
An argument is said to have started as the businessman tried to establish their identity. During the confrontation, one suspect drew a firearm and shot him in the left leg above the knee.
The attackers then escaped on their motorcycle without stealing anything from the businessman.
Despite his injury, the victim managed to ride himself to Migori County Referral Hospital, where he received treatment and was admitted in stable condition.
Police officers visited the scene and recovered one spent 9mm bullet head, which has been secured as an exhibit.
The motive of the shooting has not been established. Police have not ruled out robbery, personal disputes, or a targeted attack, but say investigations are still at an early stage.
Detectives are now following leads to identify and arrest the suspects.
The incident has raised fresh concerns about insecurity in the area. Residents say criminals appear to be taking advantage of poorly lit roads and limited police patrols, especially at night. They have urged the police to increase patrols around homes, business centres, and main roads.
Community members have also been asked to report suspicious people and motorcycles to security officers immediately.
Police have urged anyone with information that could help trace the attackers to volunteer it to the relevant authorities as efforts to establish the motive continue.
