A University of Nairobi (UoN) medical student has taken Kenyans down memory lane after returning to her former school, Kenya High School, for a nostalgic tour that revealed the facilities, friendships and experiences she still remembers from her secondary school years.

The student, popularly known on TikTok as The Travelling Doctor, visited the prestigious girls’ national school to collect her old certificates. She used the opportunity to walk around the compound, showing viewers different facilities while sharing personal memories of her time there.

Her tour covered several areas of the school, including the chapel, swimming pool, gymnasium, dining hall, administration block and staff rooms. She also revisited the dormitories, laboratories, library and other learning spaces that formed part of her school experience.

One of the interesting parts of the visit was her trip to the canteen, which she remembered for its wide selection of snacks and drinks. She mentioned items such as cookies, crisps, yoghurt and Minute Maid juice, describing the variety as resembling what one would find in a supermarket.

The student also took viewers through the school’s ten dormitory houses, revealing that she previously lived in Chania House, whose identifying colour was yellow.

She expressed her affection for the colour, saying she considered yellow beautiful despite knowing that some of her schoolmates did not share her opinion.

Beyond the buildings and facilities, the visit gave her an opportunity to reflect on her experiences as a student and the responsibilities she once held.

She disclosed that she had served as a school prefect but remained in the position for only one term before being removed following a disciplinary matter.

Although she hinted that there was more to the story, she did not reveal the circumstances surrounding her removal, leaving viewers curious about what had happened during her time in student leadership.

She also revealed that she had served as a garden prefect at another point during her secondary school years.

Her candid recollections added a personal dimension to the tour, showing that her school experience involved not only academic responsibilities but also the challenges and memorable incidents that often accompany student life.

The medical student subsequently visited some of the school’s academic facilities, including the physics, biology and home science laboratories.

She also passed through the library and rooms dedicated to music and art, giving viewers a glimpse of the different spaces available to students at the institution.

At one point, she stopped to admire a piece of artwork created by a student. She also recalled a skeleton in the biology laboratory, a familiar feature that had remained in her memory since her school days.

However, not every memory brought back fond feelings.

The student admitted that she did not miss the school’s green uniform, explaining that she preferred brighter colours. She also recalled a running track located behind the dormitories, which she said she had disliked during her time at the institution.

Her remarks offered a lighthearted reminder that returning to a former school can bring back both cherished memories and experiences that students were eager to leave behind after completing their studies.

The video also highlighted the contrast between her years at Kenya High School and her current journey as a medical student at the University of Nairobi.

Her return offered a glimpse into the environment where she spent part of her formative years before progressing to university, while her account of being removed from the prefect team provided an unexpected twist to an otherwise nostalgic visit.

The Travelling Doctor’s tour was shared on TikTok through the account @thetravellingdoctor1, allowing viewers to see the school through the eyes of a former student rather than simply as an educational institution.

Her story also comes amid other accounts of former students returning to their schools to celebrate how far they have come.

In a separate story, Captain Alice Kerubo attracted attention after returning to Londiani Girls Secondary School, where she landed a helicopter 15 years after graduating. Her visit gave students an opportunity to witness the achievements possible through a career in aviation.

Both visits illustrated how former students can reconnect with their educational roots while sharing their journeys with the next generation.
