“Ruto, tutaftane tuonge” — James Orengo’s latest words have suddenly brought back Rigathi Gachagua’s earlier prediction that one opposition leader could eventually join President William Ruto.
The Siaya Governor remains in the opposition, but his remarks have now triggered fresh questions across Kenya’s political landscape.
Gachagua had previously predicted that one of the opposition leaders would cross over to Ruto’s side. He did not establish that Orengo would be the person involved, and there is no confirmed information that Orengo plans to join the President.
Instead, Orengo’s statement appears to have opened another conversation.
“Ruto, tutaftane tuonge,” Orengo said, in remarks that quickly caught public attention. Coming at a time when Kenya’s political camps are positioning themselves ahead of the 2027 General Election, the message has naturally attracted interest.
Orengo remains an opposition figure, and his statement should not be interpreted as an announcement that he has abandoned the opposition.
Still, the choice of words has left many Kenyans asking what exactly the veteran politician meant.
Many people were left talking as the remarks circulated, with some viewing them as a possible call for dialogue between the government and opposition rather than a political defection.
The incident sparked reactions online, where supporters appeared divided over whether Orengo was simply encouraging political engagement or sending a deeper message to Ruto.
Gachagua’s prediction has added another layer to the discussion. However, linking the prediction directly to Orengo would be speculation unless either politician confirms it.
For now, Orengo remains in the opposition, while his invitation to Ruto to talk has become the latest talking point in Kenya’s political scene.
