Anne Adhiambo was just days away from graduating when her life was cut short in a shocking incident at the Kenya Medical Training College (KMTC) Nairobi Campus.

The 29-year-old final-year student was pursuing a Higher Diploma in Clinical Medicine and Surgery. She joined the college in September 2024 and was reportedly the only daughter in her family.

On the morning of July 7, 2026, Adhiambo left her room, Room 220 in the Mary Griffin Hostel, reportedly heading to church. However, she encountered another female student wearing a pair of trousers she had been searching for.

A confrontation reportedly followed, after which Adhiambo was persuaded to enter a ground-floor hostel room where five female students were present.

According to details from investigations and the post-mortem examination, Adhiambo suffered severe injuries during the incident. Her head had been struck with a blunt object, while marks around her neck and tongue suggested strangulation. She also had bite marks on her abdomen, with blood reported around her nose and ears.

The post-mortem examination conducted at Nairobi Funeral Home ruled out suicide, with the injuries pointing to a violent assault.

Her body was later found in Room 220 on the upper floor, where a roommate returning from classes at around 11pm discovered her lying on the floor, blocking the doorway.

The five students reportedly fled the campus shortly after the incident. DCI homicide detectives based in Kasarani took over the investigation and, according to the latest public updates in August, had not made any arrests.

KMTC said it had handed over CCTV footage and security records to investigators and was cooperating with the authorities.

Days later, Adhiambo’s parents arrived to collect her belongings. Her grieving mother was seen praying at the campus gate, while her father questioned what he would do with the items he was taking home.

Instead of returning home with her graduation certificate, her parents left with their daughter’s belongings.
