Jubilee Party Leader Fred Matiang’i has held discussions with the leadership of KADU Asili Party on strengthening their working relationship as the country prepares for the 2027 General Election.

Matiang’i disclosed the talks in a post on his Facebook page on Monday, while on a tour of the Coast region. He thanked KADU Asili Party Leader Mudzo Nzili and his team for expressing confidence in his presidential candidature and for committing to work together.

The former Cabinet Secretary said the focus remains on building a broad, united and purposeful movement that offers Kenyans credible leadership and a better future.

The meeting came as Matiang’i began his coastal tour, which was covered live by K24 TV in Mombasa. Speaking during the tour, he said his time in senior government service gave him a deep understanding of the issues affecting the Coast. He added that he and Nzili have worked together before, hinting at a relationship that predates the current political realignments.

The endorsement is a notable boost for Matiang’i, who was declared Jubilee Party Leader a few weeks ago and is expected to contest to be the opposition’s flagbearer in 2027.

KADU Asili is a regional party with a base at the Coast, and its backing gives him a local political vehicle in a region that has historically been a key battleground in presidential elections.

By pairing the party talks with his Coast tour, Matiang’i appears to be doing two things at once: building alliances with local power brokers and taking his message directly to voters.

The opposition has yet to settle on a single presidential candidate, and several leaders are positioning themselves for the ticket. Alliances like the one with KADU Asili are therefore likely to play a major role in shaping who emerges as the flagbearer.

For now, Matiang’i’s team will be watching how the Coast responds to his tour and whether more regional parties follow Nzili’s lead.
