Veronicah Mumira’s journey from a Kenyan-born nurse in Australia to a successful entrepreneur with businesses in healthcare, education and real estate reflects years of hard work, saving and determination.
Mumira moved to Australia in 2001 to pursue further studies. She earned a Bachelor of Science in Nursing Science from the University of Notre Dame Australia before joining the country’s health department. She began her career at Bentley Hospital, where she worked in mental health and general nursing, before moving to Sir Charles Gairdner Hospital, one of Western Australia’s major tertiary facilities.
She later pursued a Diploma in Midwifery at Curtin University and continued working in healthcare before venturing into private business. After spending several years working through agencies, she founded Auscare Group in 2009. The Perth-based company provides healthcare staffing and services, including support for people with disabilities, and also supplies hospitality workers such as chefs to health facilities.
According to Mumira, Auscare has employed about 400 people, with Kenyans making up a significant portion of its workforce. Her experience in the healthcare sector helped her understand the opportunities within the industry and inspired her to establish her own enterprise.
Her investments have also extended to real estate in Kenya and Australia. Along the Mombasa-Malindi Road, she developed Georgia Apartments, a project comprising 28 three-bedroom apartments, each featuring three bathrooms and a servant quarter. Mumira said she financed the development using savings accumulated over two decades rather than bank loans.
While based in Australia, she closely monitored the construction through CCTV and consultants on the ground. She credits her entrepreneurial spirit partly to her mother, who operated a clinic in Likoni.
In 2022, Mumira expanded her ventures into education by establishing AUSCARE International College at Epic Business Park in Nyali, Mombasa. The institution serves as a sister company to Auscare Group in Australia.
Through her businesses, Mumira has built a career spanning healthcare, recruitment, education and property development, while maintaining strong links with Kenya.
