Kenyan DJ and aspiring fintech entrepreneur DJ Katta has shared a private conversation he had with Zimbabwean businessman Wicknell Chivayo, revealing how he reached out to the tycoon seeking an opportunity to discuss his business idea.
DJ Katta, whose real name is Eugene, posted screenshots of their Instagram direct messages on October 1, 2026, shortly after news emerged that Chivayo had died in a helicopter crash in Zimbabwe. Chivayo was among those killed in the September 30 crash, which also claimed the life of his wife, Lucy Muteke.
The conversation began on January 14, when Katta introduced himself to Chivayo and explained that he had recently travelled to Harare but had not managed to meet him.
In his message, the Kenyan DJ described himself as a young creative and a director of a fintech company. He told Chivayo that he was developing a fintech concept and hoped to receive guidance from the well known Zimbabwean businessman.
Katta also praised Chivayo for his influence across Africa, referring to him as a good brother of Kenya and highlighting his involvement in youth empowerment and business.
Chivayo responded to the message and offered Katta an opportunity to meet. According to the screenshots shared by the DJ, the Zimbabwean businessman asked how Kenya was doing and said that he frequently visited the country.
He then suggested that they organise a sit down meeting, whether in Harare or wherever they happened to be in the same location. Chivayo also shared his personal contact details and asked Katta to call or send him a WhatsApp message so they could discuss what the young entrepreneur had.
The exchange did not show Chivayo promising to invest in or fund Katta’s company. Instead, his response indicated a willingness to meet and hear more about the proposed business idea.
Katta’s decision to share the conversation came after Chivayo’s death, offering followers a glimpse into an interaction that had taken place months earlier. The screenshots showed that his initial approach had received a personal response rather than being ignored.
Chivayo, who was 43, was a prominent Zimbabwean businessman who became widely known for his lavish lifestyle, philanthropy and relationships with influential figures across Africa. His death was confirmed by Zimbabwean authorities and President Emmerson Mnangagwa following the helicopter crash.
By making the messages public, DJ Katta appeared to be reflecting on his brief interaction with the businessman and the opportunity Chivayo had offered to hear about his entrepreneurial plans.
