Saboti MP Caleb Amisi has warned that Linda Mwananchi risks losing its national character and turning into what he described as a “village outfit” if its key figures continue operating through separate political parties.
Speaking during an interview with a local media station on Saturday, September 19, Amisi questioned the decision by different figures associated with the movement to maintain their own political vehicles.
He pointed to Embakasi East MP Babu Owino and Trans Nzoia Governor George Natembeya as some of the leaders with separate political parties.
“It’s going to be a village outfit, you see, Babu Owino has a party. Natembeya, each person has his own party,” Amisi said.
The Saboti MP maintained that the arrangement was different from the original plan he said had been agreed upon when Linda Mwananchi was being established.
According to Amisi, his People’s Resistance Movement (PRM) was initially intended to serve as the political vehicle for the movement because of its national presence.
He urged supporters of Linda Mwananchi to consider joining PRM, arguing that the movement has become fragmented and lacks the direction it had at its inception.
“I want to tell Kenyans that Linda Mwananchi is fragmented. It has lost direction. Come and join the PRM party, which has a sense of direction,” Amisi said.
He also called on Nairobi Senator Edwin Sifuna and Babu Owino to return to PRM, saying the party played a role in the formation of Linda Mwananchi.
Amisi further accused some veteran politicians, including Natembeya and Siaya Governor James Orengo, of joining the movement after it had already gained momentum.
He argued that their late involvement had contributed to disagreements over the movement’s original objectives.
Amisi said Linda Mwananchi was initially established with the aim of creating a platform that would propel a younger generation into political leadership.
