Kenyans have sent messages of sympathy to the four sons of Professor Lukoye Atwoli following the death and cremation of their mother, Maureen Nyadida Lukoye.
The children were among family members, friends and mourners who gathered at All Saints Cathedral in Nairobi to honour Maureen and celebrate her life before her final send-off.
Photographs from the emotional service showed the four brothers dressed in matching outfits as they stood beside their mother’s coffin. The images captured the difficult moments as the children prepared to bid farewell to their mother.
One of the boys was pictured holding a portrait of Maureen, while another carried a cross bearing her name. The photographs attracted attention online, with many Kenyans expressing sympathy and wishing the children strength during the difficult period.
Their father, Lukoye Atwoli, and grandfather, Francis Atwoli, were also present at the ceremony alongside other relatives and close family friends.
Maureen died following a prolonged battle with cancer. Her husband announced her death, mourning her as a loving wife and mother to their four children.
Her final wishes were respected when her remains were cremated at the Kariokor Crematorium in Nairobi on Thursday, September 17.
The cremation marked the conclusion of the family’s farewell ceremonies, which brought together relatives, friends and people who knew Maureen.
Following the release of photographs from the service, messages of condolence continued to emerge from Kenyans on social media.
Many of the messages focused on the four boys, with members of the public wishing them comfort and strength as they cope with the loss of their mother.
The Atwoli family continues to mourn Maureen as relatives and friends stand by them during this difficult time.
