A photo has emerged of a Nairobi woman who was arrested after secretly attempting to hand jailbreak tools to three rape suspects at Ruai Police Station.
Christine Njoki Gitau, 18, was arrested after police officers reportedly found pliers and a shear hidden inside a plate of rice and meat she had taken to the station.According to the Directorate of Criminal Investigations, Gitau arrived at the station carrying food and asked to see three friends who were being held there.
The three suspects were identified as Emmanuel Bosire, Ismael Arisa and Brian Gatheru.
The suspects are being held over allegations of robbery with violence and gang rape.
Investigators said they were accused of running an anonymous TikTok account that was allegedly used to meet young women before attacking, sexually assaulting and stealing from them.
However, the plan reportedly failed after officers checked the food Gitau had brought.
During the inspection, they discovered two metal tools hidden inside the meal.Police suspected that the tools were meant to help the three suspects break out of the police cells.
The discovery led to Gitau’s immediate arrest as detectives began investigating how the items got into the station.
Investigators are also expected to establish whether Gitau acted alone or whether other people were involved in the alleged plan to help the suspects escape.
The incident has raised concerns over attempts to sneak prohibited items into police stations through food deliveries.
Officers routinely check items brought to people in custody to ensure they do not receive anything that could help them escape or put others at risk.
The DCI reminded the public that helping someone escape from lawful custody, or trying to make such an escape possible, is a criminal offence.
Members of the public were urged to report suspicious activities to the authorities.
