Sabina Chege has broken her silence as she mourns the death of a Catholic priest she described as her friend and spiritual mentor.
Chege has expressed deep sorrow over the passing of Reverend Father Anthony Chege of the Catholic Diocese of Murang’a.
She described the priest as a jovial, humble and dedicated servant of God who played a significant role in shaping her faith during her teenage years at Kinyona Catholic Church, when he was serving at Kangari Parish.
Father Chege’s ministry was marked by true humility and powerful homilies that transformed many hearts. He did not just preach the Gospel but lived it through his devotion to celebrating Mass, administering the sacraments, visiting the sick, comforting the bereaved and mentoring the youth.
He had a special gift for youth mentorship and nurturing vocations, and many young Christians found strength in their faith because of his counsel and his ability to listen.
Until his death, Father Chege served as the Parish Priest at St Pius X Catholic Parish in Mariira and as the Dean of Gaichanjiru Deanery.
Chege extended her heartfelt condolences to Bishop James Maria Wainaina, the bishop of the Catholic Diocese of Murang’a, to the priest’s brother clergy, to his bereaved family and to all the faithful, especially the parishes of Mariira and Mugoiri where he served and hailed from respectively.
Chege concluded her tribute by stating that Father Chege had finished his race and kept the faith, and prayed that perpetual light would shine upon him always.
