As the August 2027 General Election approaches, political parties and formations are intensifying efforts to recruit supporters and strengthen their alliances ahead of the highly anticipated contest.
The Kenya Kwanza administration has remained confident that it will retain power, with President William Ruto and his allies maintaining that they are determined to secure a second term at State House.
On the other side, opposition leaders have vowed to unite and field a formidable candidate capable of mounting a serious challenge against Ruto. The opposition has repeatedly emphasized the need for a united front to increase its chances of defeating the incumbent.
The political debate has also drawn scrutiny over the role of retired President Uhuru Kenyatta. Ruto’s allies have previously accused Kenyatta of supporting and financing opposition activities, while urging him to remain detached from active politics following his retirement.
However, lawyer Donald Kipkorir has now turned his attention to members of Ruto’s administration, accusing Cabinet Secretaries and Principal Secretaries of engaging in early political mobilisation.
“Every Cabinet Minister and PS are busy campaigning in their villages for Tutam. Only Transport Minister Davis Chirchir seems to have quit politics and gone quiet,” Kipkorir remarked.
He further contrasted Chirchir’s current public profile with his role during the first term of the Uhuru-Ruto administration, when he frequently highlighted developments in the energy sector.
“Since coming back to the current government, he has gone AWOL and mute,” Kipkorir added, sparking fresh debate over the political activities of senior government officials.
