The cost of the new police uniform that was launched by the Head of State, His Excellency President William Ruto during the pass-out parade for new officers at the Kiganjo Police Training College, in Nyeri county, on Friday, 28, August 2026, has raised questions after it emerged that one kit goes for Sh25,000.
Amid questions surrounding the Sh3 billion tender to supply the new set of uniforms as part of the proposed reforms to better the police service, details from the procurement report, have now revealed the list is items that are making the new attires cost Sh25,000, per set, per officer, thus costing the government over Sh3 billion.
As reported on Saturday Taifa Leo newspaper, the Sh 25,000 charged by the Nalitex Limited. Company to produce the uniforms is for a full set of the daily working attire and not a single item.
The kit is made up of key items including: sky blue shirt for men or blouse for female officers (the shirts and blouses are embroidered with national emblem and service name tags), navy blue trousers, navy blue coat, a cap/ beret, sweater, socks and police belts.
It is this complete set that is set to be distributed to 60,000 police officers across the country that costs Sh25,000 per set. The boots for these officers are not included in the set and they are bought separately at between Sh2,200 and Sh2,700 per pair.
Meanwhile, the ceremonial uniform that was won by the 6,000 new recruits on Friday, which included a tunic and other accessories, cost Sh30,000 per set while their boots were procured separately, each pair costing between Sh3,000 to Sh5,000.
