Popular Mugithi singer Samidoh has addressed questions and criticism surrounding his decision to seek the Ol Joro Orok parliamentary seat in the 2027 General Election.In a statement shared on Wednesday, August 26, the musician acknowledged the public reaction to his political announcement, saying he had taken time to consider the feedback, questions and criticism directed at his bid.
One of the recurring questions, he said, was how a Mugithi musician could transition into Parliament.
Samidoh argued that focusing solely on his music career overlooked other aspects of his background and experience.
Before entering the entertainment industry, he said, he served as a police officer and took an oath to protect life and property, uphold the law and maintain order.
He recalled being deployed to challenging areas, including Garissa and Mpeketoni, experiences he believes contributed to his understanding of public service and the challenges facing ordinary Kenyans.
The singer also highlighted his educational background, noting that he holds a university degree and has built a music career that has taken him across Kenya and beyond.
According to Samidoh, his travels and interactions with people from different communities have exposed him to diverse experiences and networks that could be useful in creating opportunities for residents of Ol Joro Orok.He urged voters to assess his character, experience, record and vision rather than judging him primarily by his profession.
Samidoh said his agenda would focus on education, vocational training, youth empowerment, talent development and constituency development.
He maintained that his intention was not to seek votes simply because he is a musician, but to convince residents that he has the capacity to represent their interests in Parliament.
