Aisha Jumwa

Aisha Jumwa has signalled that she is open to new political partnerships after leaving the United Democratic Alliance (UDA), a move that could have significant implications for the political landscape in Kilifi and the wider Coast region ahead of the 2027 General Election.

The former Cabinet Secretary said she was prepared to engage with politicians who share her political views, stressing that her main concern is advancing the interests of the people of Kilifi, the Coast region and Kenya at large.

Jumwa made her position clear in a statement that has sparked widespread discussion about her next political move.

“Nimetoka UDA party na nikasema niko tayari kuzungumza na wale ambao ni like-minded kwa sababu ya manufaa ya watu wa Kilifi, Coast and the Country at large.”

Her departure from UDA comes at a time when Kenya’s political environment is becoming increasingly fluid, with leaders across the country exploring possible alliances and partnerships ahead of the next General Election.

Jumwa’s decision has consequently attracted attention from political observers and residents in the Coast region, particularly because of her longstanding influence in Kilifi politics. Her willingness to engage with leaders outside her former political camp could potentially create new political alignments in the region.

However, Jumwa has yet to identify the politicians she considers “like-minded” or reveal whether she is actively negotiating a new political arrangement. Her remarks therefore leave several possibilities open, including the formation of a new alliance or cooperation with existing political formations.

The former Cabinet Secretary has also not indicated whether her departure from UDA represents a permanent shift in her political direction or whether her immediate focus is simply on engaging different leaders over issues affecting the Coast.

Her comments have already generated debate among political supporters and observers, with many watching closely for signs of her next move.

As the 2027 political contest gradually takes shape, Jumwa’s decision to keep her options open could make her an important figure in negotiations involving Coast leaders. For now, however, the identity of her potential political partners remains unknown, leaving her next move a subject of intense speculation.
