Police officers in Athi River, working with alert members of the public, have rescued a medical doctor who armed kidnappers abducted from Juja City Mall and held for a Ksh3 million ransom.
Dr. Emmanuel Kerich was relaxing with friends at the mall when three armed men accosted him, handcuffed him, and forced him into a Subaru Forester bearing registration KBK 895W. Detectives noted that the vehicle’s side mirrors displayed a different registration number, KDQ 640F, in an apparent attempt to disguise the car’s identity during the crime.
The kidnappers drove Dr. Kerich through several locations, torturing him along the way as they demanded the multi-million shilling payment. They eventually headed toward Athi River.
Police Intercept the Kidnappers
Acting on swift intelligence and assistance from the public, police trailed and intercepted the vehicle along Mavemba-Mugoya Road in Athi River.
Two suspects fled the scene during the confrontation, while a third fell into the hands of an angry mob. Officers intervened, rescued the beaten suspect from the mob, and rushed him to hospital, where he remains under police guard.
Dr. Kerich emerged from the ordeal unharmed. Police recovered the handcuffs used in the abduction and impounded the Subaru Forester as evidence. Detectives are now pursuing the two suspects who fled the scene.
