Lawyer Wahome Thuku has alleged that former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua may be receiving confidential State House information through an informer operating within government circles, reviving debate over persistent intelligence leaks in Kenya’s political landscape.
Thuku claimed the pattern dates back to the period between 2020 and 2022 when President William Ruto, then serving as Deputy President, and his political allies were frequently accused of obtaining sensitive information from within State House during former President Uhuru Kenyatta’s administration. According to Thuku, the situation attracted criticism from supporters of the then government, who questioned how confidential information continued to find its way into political circles.
He recalled that concerns were raised at the time about the need to overhaul intelligence and support staff attached to State House in an effort to curb information leaks. However, Thuku said he is uncertain whether any meaningful changes were ever implemented after those concerns were voiced.
The lawyer further suggested that the individual who allegedly supplied information to Ruto during that period could still be active and may now be sharing intelligence with opposition leaders, including Raila Odinga and Rigathi Gachagua. He argued that such informers are rarely loyal to a single political figure, instead passing information to individuals they believe are willing to bring it into the public domain.
According to Thuku, the relationship between informers and political leaders is built less on personal loyalty and more on confidence that the information provided will eventually be made public. He maintained that this pattern has continued across different administrations, making it a broader institutional issue rather than one tied to a particular government.
His remarks have fueled fresh discussion on social media, with some Kenyans describing the claims as believable based on past political events, while others have questioned the lack of supporting evidence. As of now, neither State House nor Rigathi Gachagua has publicly responded to the allegations, leaving the claims unverified as public debate continues.
