The family of Alphonso Ochieng’ is struggling to come to terms with his death, revealing they never knew he had married until police informed them he had allegedly been killed by his wife in Rongai, Nakuru County.

According to the family, Alphonso had kept his personal life private and never introduced his wife to relatives or disclosed where he lived. His brother, Stephen, said the news came as a double tragedy—losing a loved one while discovering he had been living a secret family life.

Alphonso is alleged to have died after being stabbed during a domestic altercation at the home he shared with his wife, 37-year-old Carolyne Chebet. The suspect has since been arrested and is assisting police with investigations into the incident.

“We never met his wife or knew where he was staying. We only learnt about his marriage after receiving news of his death,” Stephen said, calling for justice for his brother.

Neighbours described the couple’s relationship as turbulent, claiming they frequently argued. They said screams were heard from the house around midnight, but many assumed it was another domestic quarrel because similar disputes had allegedly occurred before.

Concern grew after the noise suddenly stopped, prompting neighbours to alert authorities. Emergency responders later arrived at the scene, where Alphonso was found with fatal injuries. He was pronounced dead, while the suspect was taken into police custody.

The incident has left residents in Rongai shaken and reignited concerns over the growing number of domestic violence cases that end in loss of life. Community members have urged couples facing relationship challenges to seek counselling and other peaceful conflict-resolution mechanisms before disagreements turn deadly.

Police have launched investigations to establish the events leading to Alphonso’s death. Detectives are collecting witness statements and forensic evidence before forwarding the case to the Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions for further action.

As investigations continue, Alphonso’s family is appealing for a fair and thorough probe, saying they want justice for their loved one while urging the public to refrain from speculation until the matter is concluded in court.
