People’s Liberation Party leader Martha Karua has reaffirmed her commitment to opposition unity, saying she is prepared to support any presidential candidate selected by the coalition for the 2027 General Election if she is not chosen to lead the ticket.
Speaking on the need for a united opposition, Karua said the coalition’s primary objective is to build a strong alliance capable of mounting a credible challenge in the next presidential election. She stressed that individual political ambitions should not override the broader goal of improving governance, strengthening democratic institutions and addressing the concerns of Kenyans.
According to Karua, opposition parties should establish a fair and transparent process for selecting their presidential flag bearer, while ensuring that all leaders respect and support the final outcome.
She noted that unity would be the opposition’s greatest asset as political parties continue consultations aimed at forming a broad coalition ahead of the official campaign period.
Karua further said every leader involved in the coalition should be willing to rally behind the candidate who earns the confidence of coalition partners and the public, regardless of personal aspirations.
Her remarks come as opposition leaders intensify discussions on how to present a single presidential candidate for the 2027 polls. Among the methods being considered are a consensus agreement and a structured nomination process designed to produce one flag bearer.
Political analysts believe commitments by senior opposition leaders to support a single candidate could reduce internal divisions, strengthen the coalition’s image and improve public confidence ahead of the election.
Karua, one of Kenya’s most prominent opposition figures, has consistently advocated for constitutional governance, accountability and the protection of public institutions. She has also urged political leaders to place the interests of citizens above personal ambitions while working to address the country’s economic challenges.
As preparations for the 2027 General Election gather pace, the opposition continues to attract new allies in an effort to build a wider alliance capable of competing with the ruling Kenya Kwanza administration.
