Atwoli wif

Roselinda Atwoli has publicly thrown her weight behind Nairobi Senator Edwin Sifuna’s potential presidential bid in the 2027 General Election, urging residents and political leaders from Western Kenya to rally behind him. While addressing a gathering of political aspirants from Bungoma County, she described Sifuna as a principled and courageous leader who has consistently spoken out on matters affecting ordinary citizens.

She noted that the senator has earned widespread admiration for openly addressing challenges in the healthcare sector and advocating for the welfare of mothers and children. According to Roselinda, his willingness to speak on issues affecting vulnerable Kenyans has strengthened public confidence in his leadership.

She further appealed to the Luhya community to unite behind one candidate from the region, arguing that divisions have previously weakened their political influence. Reflecting on the 2002 presidential election, she claimed that Western Kenya leaders failed to fully support Musalia Mudavadi, a decision she suggested should not be repeated in future elections.

In an emotional appeal, Roselinda referred to women from Western Kenya as “mothers of Sifuna,” expressing their commitment to supporting and nurturing his political ambitions as the country prepares for the next presidential contest.

One of the most striking moments of her address came when she appealed to her husband, Central Organisation of Trade Unions (COTU) Secretary-General Francis Atwoli, to contribute KSh 1 billion towards Sifuna’s presidential campaign. The request quickly drew attention because Francis Atwoli has recently criticised Sifuna and politicians associated with the Linda Mwananchi movement.

Francis Atwoli has also previously alleged that former President Uhuru Kenyatta has been quietly backing Sifuna in an effort to shape political dynamics in Western Kenya. At the same time, the veteran trade unionist has maintained a close working relationship with President William Ruto’s administration.

Roselinda’s endorsement comes as Sifuna’s political influence continues to grow ahead of the 2027 elections. Leaders aligned with the Linda Mwananchi movement have already endorsed him as their preferred presidential candidate. Meanwhile, preparations are underway for major political rallies in Kitale and Bungoma, where supporters are expected to mobilise behind his bid, setting the stage for intensified political competition in Western Kenya.
