A campaign truck linked to former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua’s DCP was attacked and partially burned on Saturday, July 11, in Gilgil.The incident reportedly occurred at Pembroke Bridge, where the truck had been carrying party supporters during a campaign exercise.

Videos circulating on social media showed the branded vehicle surrounded by chaos as people onboard screamed and rushed to escape after it came under attack.

Witnesses recorded intense scenes of supporters leaping from the truck and fleeing for safety as some individuals reportedly threw stones at the vehicle.

In a different video captured shortly after, two men were seen throwing objects at the stationary truck before smoke began to rise from it, indicating it had likely been set on fire.

One of the passengers could be heard asking nearby drivers for a fire extinguisher as flames spread across parts of the campaign vehicle, which was adorned in the colors of the DCP party and showed clear signs of damage.Additionally, there were concerns regarding the driver’s location.

Party officials claimed that he was taken away during the assault, but this statement had not been independently confirmed by the time of this report.

Rose Gakuo, a communications officer in Gachagua’s office, accused armed assailants of carrying out the attack and suggested that the driver had been kidnapped.

“The situation at Pembroke Bridge, Gilgil, involves an attack on a DCP truck by armed thugs, and the driver has been abducted.

The truck has been set on fire,” she stated in an online post. No official comment from authorities had been released regarding the incident as of the time of this report.
