Former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua has told Murang’a Governor Irungu Kang’ata not to attend a political event in Ol Kalou if he plans to join the DCP team alongside the Linda Mwananchi movement.
Speaking during a public address, Gachagua said the Democratic Citizens Party (DCP) does not need Kang’ata’s presence at the meeting. He claimed he had received information that the governor intended to attend the gathering and made it clear that he was not welcome.
Gachagua’s remarks come amid growing political realignments ahead of the 2027 General Election, with leaders positioning themselves in different camps.
His statement also shows the strained relationship between him and Kang’ata, who has recently been associated with political activities outside the former deputy president’s camp.
The comments are likely to fuel debate within Mt Kenya politics, where leaders continue to compete for influence as parties and alliances prepare for the next election. The political rivalry in the region continues to intensify.
