Hiram Gitau, popularly known as Tash and the former husband of gospel singer Betty Bayo, made a rare public appearance on Sunday, July 5, 2026, after attending a church fundraiser in Machakos County alongside Kapseret MP Oscar Sudi and other leaders.
During the event at AIC Kithyoko Township in Masinga Sub-county, Tash donated KSh30,000 towards the church’s fundraising drive.
Oscar Sudi acknowledges Tash’s donation
The fundraiser brought together political leaders, church officials and members of the local community to support church programmes and development projects.
While addressing the congregation, Sudi recognised Tash’s contribution and invited the audience to applaud him.
“This guy, who is our friend, has also donated KSh30,000,” Sudi said.
Rare appearance after UDA event
Tash has largely stayed away from the public eye in recent months, making the church event one of his few public appearances.
His attendance comes just days after he was spotted at a United Democratic Alliance (UDA) function in Ol Kalou, where he interacted with party leaders and supporters.
The appearance also comes amid continued public remarks by Pastor Victor Kanyari, who was previously in a relationship with Betty Bayo, regarding custody of the children.
Sudi highlights importance of church fundraising
Ahead of the event, Sudi shared a message on Facebook explaining that the fundraiser was aimed at supporting the church while promoting development within the community.
According to the MP, leaders from different backgrounds had come together to support God’s work and demonstrate that meaningful development is achieved when community interests take precedence over politics.
“Attending a fundraising drive at AIC Kithyoko Township, Masinga Sub-county, Machakos County, alongside fellow leaders. The event brings leaders together to support the church and advance local development. Real progress happens when we put the community first, beyond politics,” he wrote.
Praises bishop’s call for unity
During the fundraiser, Sudi also commended Rt. Rev. Joseph Kioko Mutungi for what he described as an honest address outlining government development projects in the Ukambani region.
The legislator praised the bishop’s appeal for unity among leaders from the region, saying collaboration was key to accelerating development.
“Today, during a fundraiser at AIC Kithyoko Township, Masinga Sub-county, I was impressed by Rt. Rev. Joseph Kioko Mutungi of Machakos County. He clearly outlined the Government of Kenya’s projects in Ukambani and made a strong call for unity among Ukambani leaders. Ukweli ukidhiri, uongo hujitenga,” Sudi posted.
Leaders attend fundraiser
After the event, Sudi thanked the organisers and acknowledged the leaders, government officials and guests who attended the successful fundraiser.
Among those he recognised were Masinga MP Joshua Mwalyo, businessman Elijah Kyuli, several Members of Parliament, senators, county leaders and Hiram Gitau (Tash), whom he listed among the notable guests.
The Kapseret MP reiterated that church fundraisers remain important platforms for uniting communities, supporting faith-based initiatives and advancing grassroots development.
