Residents of Kerugoya town were treated to an unusual sight on Thursday morning after a woman was reportedly found asleep by the roadside following a night of partying.
The woman, identified by locals as Evelyn Wangechi, was discovered lying on a grassy section near the town centre as early morning traders and commuters began their daily routines. Curious residents gathered at a distance as she slowly woke up, seemingly unaware of where she was or how she had ended up there.
Witnesses claimed Evelyn had spent the previous evening enjoying herself at entertainment spots within the town. She was reportedly accompanied by a man believed to be her boyfriend, but those familiar with the night’s events alleged that he disappeared before dawn, leaving her behind.
According to people who witnessed the scene, Evelyn appeared confused after waking up. She reportedly asked those around her what day it was, mentioning several different days before trying to gather herself. Some bystanders also said she repeatedly called out, “Waiter, waiter,” drawing laughter from those watching.
Within minutes, several people had taken out their phones to record the incident, and the clips quickly spread across WhatsApp groups and other social media platforms. While many online users found the situation humorous, others expressed concern about the risks associated with excessive drinking and being left alone at night.
Fortunately, a few well-wishers stepped in to help. They offered Evelyn water and assisted her before ensuring she safely left the area. Witnesses said she did not appear to have suffered any physical injuries, although she looked tired and embarrassed once she became fully alert.
The incident has since become a major talking point in Kerugoya, with residents using it as a reminder of the importance of responsible drinking, staying with trusted friends during nights out, and making safe transport arrangements before heading home.
