Fresh claims of internal disagreements have emerged within the Linda Mwananchi movement, with Nairobi Senator Edwin Sifuna reportedly finding himself under pressure from Siaya Governor James Orengo and Embakasi East MP Babu Owino. The latest claims, shared in a widely circulated Facebook post, suggest that divisions are beginning to surface among leaders associated with the opposition outfit.
According to the post, Babu Owino is unhappy with Sifuna’s approach to Nairobi politics. It alleges that the senator has focused much of his criticism on President William Ruto while rarely speaking against Nairobi Governor Johnson Sakaja or the county administration. The claims suggest that Babu believes Sifuna’s stance does not support his own reported ambition of contesting the Nairobi governorship in the future.
The same post further claims that Governor James Orengo is uncomfortable with Sifuna’s growing popularity within the Linda Mwananchi movement. It alleges that Orengo wants to remain a key political figure in the coalition and is concerned that Sifuna’s influence could overshadow his own.
The situation is said to have become more complicated following Sifuna’s exit from the position of ODM Secretary-General. The Facebook post claims that his reduced influence within the party has made it easier for some leaders to sideline him as political realignments continue ahead of the 2027 General Election.
The reported disagreements are also said to have affected preparations for an upcoming political rally in Kisii, with uncertainty surrounding the event as leaders work through their differences. The post further alleges that Babu Owino and James Orengo recently held talks with Fred Matiang’i without informing Sifuna.
Additionally, the Facebook post claims that former President Uhuru Kenyatta is concerned about the reported divisions and has allegedly paused financial support for the movement until unity is restored. However, these claims remain unverified, and none of the leaders mentioned has publicly confirmed the allegations.
