The case of 25-year-old Mary Claire Ochieng’ has come back into the spotlight three months after she was attacked with acid in an incident reportedly planned by her ex-boyfriend, Elvis Opiyo.In her first interview with Citizen TV, Claire recounted her experiences and aimed to clarify the rumors about her relationship with Elvis and the traumatic events she faced.
She disclosed alarming information, including claims of multiple prior assaults by the man she once cared for.
Additionally, she presented screenshots of conversations with the main suspect, which revealed both urgent pleas for affection and alarming threats to her safety.
Claire recounted their meeting in 2019 during a church event, with their relationship officially beginning in 2021.
Initially unaware of his marital status, she started hearing rumors about his wife by the second year of their relationship.
After two months, she confirmed that he was indeed married, although he denied it when she confronted him.In April 2025, Claire chose to end the relationship after uncovering a web of deceit. Elvis had claimed to her that he only had a child’s mother, yet she later discovered that he had a wife and two children.
Additional messages indicated that her ex-boyfriend had offered her money at various times, even proposing to buy her expensive phone worth KSh 185K as a gesture of apology.
However, Claire rejected these proposals, firmly stating that she was no longer interested in anything he offered.
According to Claire, Elvis remained unconvinced that their relationship was truly over until he made that decision himself.
He supposedly sent numerous messages insisting she return all the items he had given her, such as clothing, shoes, and money, before she could leave.
