A new opinion poll conducted by Mizani Africa has revealed a significant shift in the political landscape of Gilgil Constituency, with Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua’s Democracy for Citizens Party (DCP) emerging as the most preferred political outfit among residents.

The survey results, released on June 19, show that DCP enjoys a commanding 42.0 percent support, placing it well ahead of other political parties and underlining its growing influence as Kenya gradually heads toward the 2027 General Election.

According to the poll, President William Ruto’s United Democratic Alliance (UDA) ranks second with 16.0 percent support. The figures indicate a substantial gap of 26 percentage points between DCP and the ruling party, suggesting changing political sentiments within the constituency.

Former ruling party Jubilee Party secured 6.6 percent support among respondents, while Raila Odinga’s Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) garnered 2.0 percent. The Wiper Democratic Movement followed closely with 1.7 percent support, while all other political parties combined accounted for just 1.1 percent.

One of the most notable findings from the survey was the large number of respondents who expressed no allegiance to any political party. According to the poll, 30.6 percent of those interviewed said they currently do not support any party, creating a sizeable bloc of undecided voters that could play a decisive role in future elections.

Political observers say the findings reflect changing dynamics in Gilgil Constituency and point to increasing competition ahead of the 2027 polls. The strong showing by DCP is likely to boost the party’s confidence and could influence political strategies among rival parties seeking to strengthen their presence in the region.

The survey results also suggest that while established parties such as UDA, Jubilee, ODM and Wiper maintain some support, a considerable section of the electorate remains politically uncommitted. Analysts note that this group of undecided voters could become a key battleground as parties intensify grassroots campaigns in the coming months.

With nearly one-third of respondents yet to identify with any political formation, the race for influence in Gilgil Constituency appears far from settled, setting the stage for heightened political activity as preparations for the 2027 General Election gather momentum.
