Chope

A resident of Kamtu Village in Mbeere North Constituency is crying out for justice after a helicopter allegedly carrying a Cabinet Secretary landed on his farm, flattening crops covering nearly an acre of land and causing damage he says far exceeds the token compensation he received.

The distressed farmer claims that the helicopter’s landing destroyed a substantial portion of his crops, dealing a severe blow to his livelihood and leaving him counting losses that he estimates are worth far more than the Ksh10,000 he was handed as compensation.

The amount, the farmer insists, is grossly inadequate and bears no relation to the actual value of the destroyed crops, which covered close to an acre of productive farmland that he depends on for his family’s sustenance and income.

Making his situation more frustrating, the farmer alleges that his attempts to follow up with the Cabinet Secretary’s office for further engagement and a fair resolution have hit a wall, with his calls and efforts to seek audience going unanswered.

The incident has drawn sharp public attention, with many Kenyans expressing outrage over what they describe as a blatant disregard for the rights and welfare of ordinary citizens by those in positions of power.

Critics argue that the case reflects a broader culture of impunity in which government officials and their entourages cause damage to citizens’ property with little accountability or meaningful redress.

At the time of going to press, the Cabinet Secretary’s office had not issued any official response to the farmer’s allegations. The resident has vowed to pursue every available legal avenue to ensure he receives fair and full compensation for the damage caused to his farm.
