It is the start of a new era at GSU headquarters as new commandant Johana Kiplangat Tonui took over the command of the elite unit from his predecessor Ranson Lolmodooni.
The colourful event was attended by top GSU officers, including general staffing officer, George Nderitu.
The leadership changes at GSU headquarters were made last week by the Deputy Inspector General of Police in-charge of the Kenya Police Service wing, Eliud Lagat.
Before his appointment as the new GSU commandant, Tonui served in the operations directorate of the Kenya Police Service.
At some point, he had been seconded to the Kenya Wildlife Service as the in-charge of wildlife security.
On his part, Lolmodooni was appointed as GSU commandant in July 2024, succeeding the current DIG-KPS Lagat.
Before that, he was the director of operations at the police headquarters.
The one-time Kisumu County Police commander was at some point the man in-charge of the Vice President’s security under the Presidential Escort Unit.
Lolmodooni had also served as OCS, OCDP in various parts of the country before climbing his way to become a senior security chief in the country.
Tonui will now be at the heart of Kenya’s security especially at the time the country heads to the 2027 general election.
