Former Nyeri Town Member of Parliament Ngunjiri Wambugu has stirred conversation online after suggesting that behind-the-scenes political calculations could already be shaping the opposition’s direction ahead of the 2027 General Election.
In a Facebook post, Wambugu linked his remarks to what he called a “45-day hibernation,” referring to ongoing political consultations involving former Deputy President and DCP Party leader Rigathi Gachagua following the High Court ruling on his impeachment petition.
He suggested that once this period is over, a key announcement could follow regarding the opposition’s preferred presidential candidate.
“After his 45 days in hibernation Jofri will declare Kalonzo is the opposition presidential candidate. The rest of us in opposition are expected to align with this declaration. No questions,” Wambugu wrote.
The statement has triggered discussion, mainly because it paints a picture of a possible early agreement within opposition ranks, where major decisions may already be taking shape before formal declarations are made.
Kalonzo Musyoka, who leads the Wiper Patriotic Front Party, remains one of the most experienced opposition figures in the country and has been at the centre of several coalition talks in past elections.
His name continues to feature prominently whenever discussions about a unified opposition ticket emerge.
