Renowned media personality Lulu Hassan has sparked widespread discussion after campaign materials bearing her image and the slogan “Mama Mvita” began circulating across social media platforms and parts of Mombasa County.
The celebrated Citizen TV news anchor, who has built a loyal following through her journalism career and successful television productions, is now being linked to a possible bid for the Mvita parliamentary seat in the 2027 General Election. The reports have generated excitement among residents and political observers, with many keen to see whether the popular broadcaster will officially venture into elective politics.
Lulu, who co-hosts Nipashe Wikendi alongside her husband Rashid Abdalla, has earned admiration over the years for her professionalism and connection with audiences. Beyond television, she has made a name for herself in the film industry through Jiffy Pictures, a production company behind several popular Swahili television dramas.
The emergence of branded campaign posters has fueled speculation that the journalist could be preparing to join active politics under the Linda Mwananchi movement, a political outfit associated with leaders advocating governance reforms and citizen-focused leadership.
Residents of Mvita have reacted differently to the reports. While some believe her communication skills and public appeal could translate into effective leadership, others argue that voters will be more interested in her policy agenda and plans for addressing local challenges such as unemployment, business growth, infrastructure development, and youth empowerment.
Political analysts note that if Lulu eventually declares her candidature, she would instantly become one of the most recognizable figures in the race, thanks to her national profile and strong influence among Swahili-speaking audiences.
For now, neither an official campaign launch nor a formal declaration has been made. However, the growing “Mama Mvita” movement has already succeeded in placing Lulu Hassan at the center of early conversations surrounding the battle for Mvita’s parliamentary seat in 2027.
