Tana River Governor Dhadho Godhana has emerged as Kenya’s best-performing governor according to the latest KenyaTrack Survey 2026, which assessed county leadership based on service delivery, development performance, governance, accountability, and responsiveness to citizens.
The survey placed Governor Godhana at the top of the national rankings, citing his administration’s efforts in expanding access to essential services, improving infrastructure, enhancing water projects, strengthening healthcare delivery, and promoting economic empowerment initiatives across Tana River County.
Kirinyaga Governor Anne Waiguru secured the second position, earning recognition for her administration’s investments in agriculture, healthcare, value addition, and digital governance initiatives that have strengthened service delivery and economic growth within the county.
Murang’a Governor Irungu Kang’ata was ranked third, with respondents highlighting his visible development agenda, innovative governance programs, social welfare initiatives, and sustained engagement with residents across the county.
Trans Nzoia Governor George Natembeya took fourth place, followed by Makueni Governor Mutula Kilonzo Jr. in fifth position. Kwale Governor Fatuma Achani was ranked sixth, while Embu Governor Cecily Mbarire secured seventh place.
Laikipia Governor Joshua Irungu was placed eighth, followed by Kakamega Governor Fernandes Barasa in ninth position.
Mombasa Governor Abdulswamad Nassir completed the top ten list, ranking tenth nationally.
The survey findings suggest that Kenyans are increasingly evaluating county leadership based on tangible development outcomes, efficient service delivery, prudent use of public resources, and the ability of governors to address the everyday needs of residents.
Analysts note that the rankings reflect growing public expectations for accountable leadership and measurable development impact as devolution continues to mature more than a decade after its introduction.
According to the survey, governors who have demonstrated visible infrastructure development, improved access to healthcare and water services, enhanced economic opportunities, and maintained strong engagement with citizens received higher approval ratings from respondents.
The KenyaTrack Survey was conducted between May 10 and June 5, 2026, involving 4,354 respondents drawn from across the country through proportionate random sampling. The poll carried a margin of error of plus or minus three percent at a 95 percent confidence level
