Former President Daniel Arap Moi had eight children, among them a set of twins.
One of his children grew up to be a military officer, another thrilled Kenyans with his rallying skills, while yet another dominated headlines over a dramatic divorce and maintenance case.
The family has also produced politicians but not as charismatic and larger than life as their father.Despite being the country’s longest-serving president, Daniel Arap Moi managed to keep his family away from the public eye, leaving Kenyans with little information about his kin.Doris Elizabeth Chepkorir Moi is one of Moi’s daughters who many know little to nothing about.
She is Philip’s twin sister and also lives a very private life. She married, against her father’s approval, the son of Moi-era politician Ibrahim Choge, Simon. Simon, who worked as her brother Jonathan’s rally navigator died in 1998 in a mysterious road accident. She now lead a private life as a wealthy widow.
Despite the initial disapproval, the couple later received support from Moi, including a large tea estate in Kaimosi, Nandi County Nandi Hills area where they settled and engaged in tea farming.
Ibrahim Kiptum Choge died in a road accident on June 8, 1998. His father publicly suggested the death might have been staged and offered a reward for information, but no conclusive evidence emerged. Doris became a widow after this.
Doris has largely maintained a low public profile compared to some of her siblings.
