Angela Chibalonza is remembered as one of East Africa’s most influential gospel musicians, whose powerful voice and deeply spiritual songs left a lasting mark on the region’s worship culture. Born on November 26, 1976, in Bukavu in the Democratic Republic of Congo, she grew up in a devout Christian family where her early exposure to church music shaped her lifelong calling.
From a young age, Angela showed a strong passion for singing, performing in church choirs and gradually developing her unique vocal style. Her move into Pentecostal Christianity further strengthened her musical direction, as she began composing songs centered on faith, hope, and devotion. Her music quickly resonated with audiences across borders due to its emotional depth and spiritual message.
In 1997, she relocated to Kenya, a move that marked the beginning of her rise in the East African gospel scene. Blending Congolese musical influences with Swahili gospel rhythms, she built a strong following and became a beloved figure in Christian music ministries. Her songs were widely embraced in churches and gospel gatherings, earning her recognition as a leading voice in inspirational music.
Angela later married Pastor Elisha Muliri, and together they were blessed with a daughter, Wonder Glory. However, their family was struck by tragedy in September 2007 when Angela died in a road accident while returning from a ministry event. Her passing shocked fans and left a major gap in the gospel industry.
In the years that followed, Elisha Muliri focused on raising their daughter before later remarrying Maggie Muliri, a gospel singer and preacher. Maggie became part of the family and supported both the household and ministry work.
Although her life was cut short, Angela Chibalonza’s legacy continues through her music, her family, and the enduring impact of her ministry across Africa.
