A young Kenyan woman has shared a painful account of how a relationship she believed would lead to marriage ended in heartbreak after her boyfriend of eight years allegedly left her and married her closest friend.

According to an article published by Tuko.co.ke on Monday, June 8, Sheila Cherop recounted how she discovered that the man she had been dating for years had been secretly planning a wedding with her best friend, leaving her shocked and devastated.

Cherop said she met the man while working as a househelp in Nairobi. At the time, he worked as a caretaker at a nearby apartment and also sold fruits near the estate where she was employed. She became one of his regular customers, and through their interactions, a friendship gradually developed.

She described him as a church-going and God-fearing young man who was actively involved in church activities. As their friendship grew, he invited her to attend his church in Roysambu and later introduced her to other members of the congregation.

What began as a friendship eventually developed into a romantic relationship. Over time, the man was appointed a youth leader in the church, a role that increased his responsibilities and involvement in ministry. Cherop also became more active in church activities as their relationship progressed.

During that period, she befriended a woman who lived within the church compound. The friendship became strong, and the two women grew very close, with Cherop considering her one of her best friends.

Years later, Cherop said her relationship with the boyfriend became more serious. She rented a house near the church, and he frequently visited her residence, sometimes spending nights there. She later became pregnant and expected the man, who had by then been elevated to the position of pastor, to formalise their union through marriage.

However, she began noticing changes in his behaviour after they became more intimate. Unknown to her, he was allegedly making plans to marry someone else.

The truth emerged in a manner she never expected. During a church service, an announcement appeared on a screen displaying a wedding poster. To her surprise, the groom featured in the poster was her boyfriend, but the bride was not her.

After returning home, she checked her WhatsApp messages and found that the man had personally sent her the same wedding poster while seeking contributions for the ceremony. Cherop said he had also been sharing the poster in several church WhatsApp groups.

When she eventually confronted him, she claimed that he showed no remorse and informed her that he had already made his choice.
