Sombre Mood as Police Officer Dies in Road Accident Two Months Before Wedding
A sombre mood has engulfed residents of Kakamega County following the tragic death of a police officer who lost his life in a road accident while reportedly pursuing a boda boda rider in Nairobi just two months to his wedding.
The heartbreaking incident occurred barely two months before he was set to walk down the aisle with his fiancée.
The officer, identified as Samwel Barasa, was serving as a police constable and was reportedly on duty on Friday, June 5, when the fatal accident occurred along Waiyaki Way.
According to preliminary reports, Barasa was riding a police motorcycle while pursuing a boda boda rider when tragedy struck.
Sources indicate that as he negotiated a corner along the busy highway, a speeding vehicle hit him, causing fatal injuries.
Emergency responders and fellow officers rushed to the scene, but efforts to save his life were unsuccessful.
News of his sudden death has sent shockwaves through his family, friends, colleagues, and members of the community who knew him as a dedicated officer committed to serving the public.
What has made the tragedy even more painful is that Barasa was preparing for one of the most important milestones in his life.
The officer was looking forward to marrying his fiancée, Susan Luswet, on August 8, 2026, in a wedding ceremony that had already been planned and announced to relatives and friends.
A wedding invitation card that has since circulated among family members and friends shows a smiling Barasa and Susan inviting guests to witness their union at Nyanga Catholic Parish.
Friends close to the couple described them as deeply committed to each other and excited about beginning their life together as husband and wife.
Preparations for the wedding were reportedly underway, with both families looking forward to the much-anticipated celebration.
