Muthungu

Anthony Muthungu is a Kenyan entrepreneur and innovator who made history as one of the pioneers of local USB cable manufacturing in the country. He is the founder of Totosci, a company that produces phone USB cables in Kenya.

His journey began in 2013 when he joined Karatina University to study a Bachelor of Education Science in Physics and Mathematics. During his studies, he developed an interest in electronics and manufacturing, which later shaped his business path.

After completing his education, Anthony gathered a small team and sourced basic machinery to begin producing USB cables. In the early stages, they distributed their first products for free to allow users to test and give feedback before entering the market.

Once the products were approved, he secured the necessary licenses and began full operations. He reportedly raised about Sh3 million from friends to support the startup process. The company started with small orders of around 200 cables and gradually expanded production.

By 2021, Totosci was manufacturing between 200 and 500 USB cables daily, with plans to scale up production to as many as 10,000 units per day in the future. Anthony also hopes to expand into producing chargers, mobile phones, and earphones.

His story highlights local innovation and the growth of Kenya’s manufacturing sector.
