What was meant to be a day of national pride and celebration turned into a moment of grief after a police officer reportedly collapsed and died while on duty during the Madaraka Day celebrations in Wajir County.

 

The tragic incident has left fellow officers, leaders, and members of the public mourning a man who dedicated his life to serving and protecting Kenyans. As thousands across the country marked the historic occasion, the officer was among security personnel deployed to ensure the celebrations proceeded smoothly and safely.

News of his sudden death emerged after Kwale Woman Representative Fatuma Masito shared a photograph of the fallen officer and paid tribute to him through a heartfelt message on Monday, June 1. The legislator expressed deep sorrow over the loss, describing the deceased as a committed public servant who died while faithfully carrying out his duties to the nation.

 

According to Masito, the officer collapsed unexpectedly during the national event, shocking colleagues and attendees who had gathered to commemorate Kenya’s self-governance milestone. Despite efforts to respond to the emergency, the officer sadly lost his life, bringing an abrupt and painful end to a day that was supposed to unite the country in celebration.

The lawmaker extended her heartfelt condolences to the officer’s family, friends, and fellow officers, acknowledging the immense sacrifice made by men and women in uniform. She noted that the nation had lost a dedicated servant whose commitment to duty remained unwavering until his final moments.

Masito also conveyed her sympathies to residents of Ziwani ya Golini, the officer’s home area, saying the community had lost one of its respected sons. She encouraged the family to remain strong during this difficult period and prayed for comfort as they come to terms with the devastating loss.

In her message, the Woman Representative asked Allah to grant the deceased eternal rest and provide strength and peace to those he left behind.
