A young Nigerian socialite has died following complications from a cosmetic procedure on her backside, with heartbreaking footage of her final moments going viral online and sparking fresh outrage over the safety of cosmetic surgery clinics.
Elena Jessica, a social media personality famed for her lavish lifestyle, died weeks after undergoing a second Brazilian Butt Lift (BBL) surgery on February 6, 2026. The procedure involved liposuction and fat transfer to her hips, backside, and calves, and was reportedly performed at Cynosure Aesthetic Plastic Surgery in Ikoyi, Nigeria.
Leaked WhatsApp messages from her sister revealed that just two days after the surgery, Elena began experiencing severe pain in the operated areas. Tests showed her white blood cell count was dangerously high while her blood levels were critically low, requiring a transfusion of five pints of blood.
As many continued to process the loss, a video said to show Jessica’s final moments surfaced online, sparking widespread outrage. In the emotional clip, Jessica is seen lying on a hospital bed in visible pain as medical personnel carry out a wound dressing procedure.
Reports indicate that Jessica’s family spent over KSh 1 million on medical bills while trying to save her life, even selling some of her personal belongings to fund treatment. Despite their efforts, the socialite sadly passed away.
Her death was announced by her sister Nelli, who alleged the clinic used unsterilized tools and abandoned Elena after her condition worsened. Police are yet to issue an official statement, with many social media users questioning whether medical malpractice played a role in the tragic outcome.
This is not the first time the clinic has faced such accusations. In 2022, Cynosure was also accused of medical negligence following the death of another patient who reportedly died from excessive bleeding after undergoing butt surgery.
Her death has renewed calls for stricter regulation of cosmetic surgery facilities across Africa.
