David Mutaaga, 69, and his wife Florence Mutaaga, 62, have been laid to rest in Switzerland, nearly 10 months after their tragic and unresolved killings in Uganda that shocked both East Africa and the global diaspora community.
The couple was buried at Dübendorf Cemetery, bringing a solemn and emotional end to a long period marked by grief, uncertainty, and unanswered questions surrounding their deaths.
The two were found dead in July 2025 at their home in Lugonjo, Nakiwogo Cell, in Entebbe Municipality. Their deaths immediately triggered widespread concern, especially given their background as long-term residents of Zurich, where they had lived for more than three decades before returning to Uganda.
After years abroad, the Mutaagas had recently relocated back to Uganda with hopes of spending their retirement in a quieter and more familiar environment. That plan was abruptly cut short under circumstances that remain unclear to date.
Authorities launched investigations soon after the incident. In the early stages, several individuals, including casual workers who had been employed at the couple’s residence, were detained to assist with inquiries. However, despite continued probes, no official conclusions regarding motive or suspects have been publicly confirmed.
Unverified reports at the time suggested possible tensions linked to property and family matters, but these claims were never formally substantiated by investigators.
As months passed without resolution, the couple’s children were left in prolonged emotional distress and uncertainty. Eventually, they made the difficult decision to repatriate the remains of their parents to Switzerland, a country deeply connected to the family’s long personal and professional history.
The burial ceremony at Dübendorf Cemetery was attended by close relatives and friends who gathered to celebrate the couple’s lives, legacy, and decades of shared memories. The service was described as deeply emotional yet dignified, offering a rare moment of closure after months of anguish.
Even with the burial completed, the case remains officially unresolved, and the search for answers and justice continues quietly in the background as the family tries to come to terms with their loss.
