A Kajiado North family is reeling after discovering they had unknowingly sheltered a man dressed in a girl’s school uniform, who allegedly touched a minor while sleeping in her bed.

A family in Kware, Kajiado North, received a disturbing shock after welcoming who they believed was a stranded schoolgirl into their home, only to later discover the “student” was an adult man in disguise. The incident, which unfolded on the night of May 18, 2026, has since rattled the local community and landed the suspect in police custody at Rongai Police Station.

A Carefully Crafted Deception

The suspect approached a local shopkeeper at around 9 p.m., dressed in a girl’s school uniform and presenting a heartbreaking story designed to win her sympathy. He claimed a school had sent him home due to unpaid fees and that he was searching for his stepmother, referred to as “Mama Glory.” To make the story more convincing, he added that both his parents had died, his siblings lived with their grandmother in Kiminini, Trans Nzoia County, and he was currently staying with an aunt.

The shopkeeper believed every word of it.

“He came to my shop asking if I knew Mama Glory. He said he had travelled by bus from school to Nairobi, where he met a good Samaritan who paid for his ride to Kware,” she recounted.

Moved by the account, she took the stranger in for the night, fed him, and allowed him to sleep in her home alongside her daughter and granddaughter, with no reason to question his identity.

Suspicion Grows Overnight

The original sleeping arrangement placed the suspect on the living room couch. However, he later moved into the daughter’s bed, claiming he was afraid. The mother, waking up to pray and finding the couch empty, accepted the explanation without alarm.

“I woke up to pray, went to the sitting room, and found my daughter awake. I noticed the suspect was not on the couch and asked her about it. My daughter said the suspect had joined them in bed, saying he was scared. I had no problem with that because I believed he was a girl, so I went back to sleep,” she said.

Suspicion took hold when the suspect reportedly reached out and touched the daughter’s knees during the night. The following morning, the daughter confronted him at the shop, pressing him about his background. His story quickly fell apart as contradictions mounted, prompting her to threaten him with handing him over to an angry mob unless he told the truth.

The daughter had also begun to doubt his gender, noting that his physical appearance resembled a man wearing women’s clothing. She forced him to lift his dress, and her fears were confirmed: the “schoolgirl” was male.

Suspect Confesses to Conning Across Counties

The family immediately reported the matter to the local area chief in Kware. During interrogation, the suspect admitted to a pattern of deception, revealing that he regularly travels across multiple counties, including Narok and Kericho, posing as a charity case to solicit help from unsuspecting strangers. He justified the behavior by claiming he turned to this lifestyle after losing both parents and after his grandmother relocated to Kitale, leaving him with no support system.

Authorities escorted him to Rongai Police Station, where officers placed him in custody. Sub-County Police Commander Kiprono Benjamin told reporters that investigators believe the suspect is approximately 19 years old, though officials are conducting a formal age assessment before filing charges.

“We tried to present him in court, but due to uncertainty regarding his age, an age assessment had to be conducted to ensure he is not a minor. Appropriate action will be taken once his age is verified,” Kiprono said.

Possible Repeat Offender With a Trail Across Counties

Investigators now believe this may not be the suspect’s first run-in with the law.

Police suspect he is the same individual arrested in Kinoo, Kiambu County, in September of last year. In that incident, he allegedly used the alias “Millicent Kemunto” in a fraudulent attempt to secure employment as a domestic worker.

Once the age assessment concludes, authorities plan to charge him with indecent assault of a minor.
