President William Ruto on Saturday handed over the newly completed Diani Modern Market in Msambweni Constituency, Kwale County.The move aimed at boosting trade and improving livelihoods for local residents.

The modern facility, constructed at a cost of KSh193 million, is expected to accommodate about 300 traders and provide a more organized and conducive environment for business activities in the region.

Speaking during the event, the President said the project reflects the government’s commitment to empowering small-scale traders and improving economic opportunities for ordinary Kenyans through inclusive development initiatives.

The market has been equipped with key amenities including running water, cold storage rooms, an ICT hub, and a children’s playground to support both traders and customers.

Ruto noted that such investments are part of the government’s broader plan to improve public infrastructure and strengthen economic growth at the grassroots level.

During the same tour, the President also flagged off the Diani Last Mile Connectivity Programme, which forms part of ongoing electricity connection projects in Msambweni Constituency.The electrification programme is being implemented at a cost of KSh119 million and is expected to expand access to reliable power for households and businesses in the area.

Local leaders and residents welcomed the projects, saying they would help improve business operations, create employment opportunities, and enhance service delivery within the county.

The President reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to implementing development projects that directly benefit citizens and uplift communities economically.

Residents expressed optimism that improved infrastructure and electricity access would attract more investment to the coastal region and create better opportunities for traders, youth, and small enterprises seeking growth and stability in the local economy.
