Residents of Kiembeni in Mombasa are grieving the untimely death of 30 year-old Rachael Brenda Opiyo, who was killed by a police officer.

The mother of two was found dead inside the residence of a police officer where she was employed as a laundry worker.

According to Hussein Khalid, an activist from Vocal Africa, Brenda’s remains were discovered with significant burns on her hands and legs.

Her mother stated that she was initially informed that her daughter had collapsed.

However, upon arriving at the location, she was shocked to see Brenda’s body severely burnt.

The residents believed that Brenda was killed after she resisted the officer’s sexual desires while she was working in his home.

The family is now seeking clarification regarding the events that transpired within the officer’s home.

The incident has incited public anger, with many associating the case with the increasing incidence of femicide in the nation.
