Kenyans have been given a rare look into the serene rural home of Senator Richard Onyonka, following a condolence visit by a delegation of Kisii leaders during a moment of mourning.The visit was led by Amos Nyaribo, who joined other regional leaders in paying their respects and offering support to the senator and his family after the death of his mother, Mama Teresia Onyonka.
The delegation also included officials and leaders from Nyamira and Kisii, who described the visit as a show of unity and solidarity during a difficult period for the family.
In a statement shared by Hon. Gisesa, the leaders confirmed that they had visited the senator at his Nyamataro home to condole with him and stand with the family in grief.
He noted that the leaders offered prayers and encouragement, asking for strength and comfort for the bereaved family.
Mama Teresia Onyonka passed away at the age of 81 while receiving treatment at the Aga Khan University Hospital in Nairobi.She is remembered as a respected matriarch whose life impacted many within Kisii County.
Simba Arati also sent his condolences, describing her as a pillar of the community who embodied unity, compassion, and resilience.
He praised her role in shaping values that continue to inspire many across the region.
The family has announced funeral arrangements, with the body expected to leave Nairobi early on May 14, 2026, for Kisii.
A mass will be held at Nyabururu, followed by viewing of the body.
The burial will take place the following day in Mosocho, with a private interment ceremony reserved strictly for close family members to conclude the final rites.
