Mutua La

He is one of the most vocal and sometimes controversial MPs in the country.

Now serving in his second term in office, Kitui East MP Nimrod Mbai, has defied all the odds by rising from a junior police officer to become a lawmaker.

In 2017, against all the adds, he won the MP seat in his first attempt in politics. He would go on to easily secure a second straight term in 2022.

After joining the police service in the 1990s, Mbai rose to become the bodyguard of the late former cabinet minister, Francis Nyenze, who served in the President Daniel Arap Moi government.

After Nyenze lost his MP seat in 2002, Mbai went on to become the bodyguard to the then government spokesperson, Dr Alfred Mutua, who is now the Labour Cabinet Secretary.

In 2013, when Dr Mutua was elected as Machakos County Governor, Mbai resigned from the police service and joined his former boss in the County Government. He was appointed as Chief Officer, the position he held for five years before opting to plunge into the murky world of politics in 2017.

For almost one decade that he has been in politics, Mbai has proved to be a political heavyweight in his own rights.

Known for his sharp tongue, Mbai was recently the talk of the country, when he warned people against talking ill of President William Ruto while in his constituency.

A diehard Ruto supporter, the former cop is seen by many as the future of Ukambani region politics.
