muhoozi

Uganda’s Chief of Defence Forces General Muhoozi Kainerugaba has told Ugandans exactly who will run their country after his father President Yoweri Museveni leaves power, and his words have sparked serious debate across East Africa.

In a statement now spreading fast online, Muhoozi boldly declared: “After Mzee Museveni, we shall take charge of the country. That is not only our birthright but also our God-given right. It is inevitable.”

His message was plain, direct and left many people asking hard questions about Uganda’s political future.

President Museveni, now 81, secured another term in the January 2026 election, extending his decades-long stay in power. But as succession questions grow louder, Muhoozi’s remarks have added fresh tension, especially because he is not just the president’s son but also Uganda’s top military commander.

Muhoozi had once shown interest in running for president himself, but that did not happen after Museveni remained in office. Many political observers now believe Uganda’s future leadership may depend entirely on when Museveni chooses to exit.

His past social media posts have also raised alarm. Muhoozi previously made controversial remarks about opposition leader Bobi Wine and shared posts that critics called deeply disturbing.

Kenyans quickly joined the conversation online, and many did not mince their words.

“There was also Mubarak,” one Kenyan wrote, comparing Uganda’s situation to Egypt’s former ruler who was eventually pushed out.

Another said: “Uganda Gen Z must wake up.”

“Is Uganda a country or family property?” another asked.

Others warned that political power passed like inheritance can easily push a nation from one long rule into another dangerous chapter.

Muhoozi may call it inevitable, but East Africans know history has a way of shocking those who think power is permanent.
