A 26-year-old woman has been sentenced to three years in prison after admitting to stealing an infant from another woman during a dispute linked to a love triangle involving her estranged husband.
The woman, identified as Asha Wanyonyi, appeared before Principal Magistrate Jamlick Murithi, where she pleaded guilty to the charge of child stealing. The offence is contrary to Section 174(1)(a) of the Penal Code.
According to court proceedings, Wanyonyi admitted the charge twice, even after the court warned her about the serious consequences of pleading guilty. The magistrate gave her another chance to reconsider her plea, but she maintained that she was guilty.
The court heard that the incident was connected to a relationship dispute involving Wanyonyi, her estranged husband, and another woman. Reports indicated that tensions had grown between the parties, eventually leading to the shocking act of taking the infant.
