Former Nairobi Governor Mike Sonko has responded after a female Kamba artist allegedly directed offensive remarks at him during a public online exchange, sparking mixed reactions among social media users.

The incident unfolded early in the morning when Sonko was engaging with his followers online. He said he had taken time around 4 a.m. to read and respond to public comments when he came across a message from a user identified as Shee Ya Minaa Kyawango.

According to him, the individual used highly offensive language against him, including insults that he described as disrespectful and unacceptable.

In his response, Sonko emphasised the importance of mutual respect among members of the public, noting that disagreement and criticism are normal but should not cross into personal abuse.

He stated that people are free to differ in opinion, but insulting others without cause undermines constructive communication and harmony on social platforms.

He further urged users to maintain dignity and positivity when interacting online.

Sonko later reacted strongly to the remarks, saying in reported comments that the individual would one day regret such behaviour and might even extend similar insults to close family members.

He added that he places his faith in God and believes in justice beyond human confrontation.

Sonko reacted by saying, “God bless you. One day you will come to abuse your mother or your children. I serve a faithful God.”

The exchange has since attracted attention online, with users expressing divided opinions over the tone of public discourse on social media.

Some have supported Sonko’s call for respect, while others have pointed to the growing trend of online insults between public figures and members of the public.

Sonko, who previously served as Nairobi governor, remains an active and outspoken presence on social media, where he frequently engages with supporters and critics alike.

The matter continues to generate discussion, with calls from various quarters for more responsible communication and respect among all social media users.
