Wandayi

Pressure is mounting on Energy Cabinet Secretary Opiyo Wandayi after a fresh petition filed at the High Court intensified calls for his suspension over the controversial KSh4.8 billion fuel saga.

On Friday, April 10, activist Francis Awino moved to the High Court of Kenya seeking urgent intervention, arguing that Wandayi should be barred from exercising his official duties pending the hearing and determination of the case.

The petition alleges irregular procurement of substandard fuel, raising serious concerns about accountability and oversight within the Energy Ministry.

Awino is urging the court to certify the matter as urgent and issue conservatory orders, warning that allowing Wandayi to remain in office could compromise investigations and erode public confidence in government institutions. The case now sets the stage for a legal and political showdown that could have far-reaching implications.

The development marks a significant blow to the embattled CS, who has already been under intense scrutiny from sections of the public and political class. While Wandayi has yet to respond directly to the latest petition, his allies have previously dismissed the allegations as politically driven.

As the court weighs in, the unfolding saga threatens to deepen the crisis surrounding the fuel scandal and further dent the government’s credibility.
