The National Police Service (NPS) has dismissed recent claims suggesting that Amin Mohamed, the Director of Criminal Investigations (DCI), would leave office on April 1.
In a statement on Wednesday, NPS spokesperson Muchiri Nyaga called the reports “inaccurate, premature, and misleading,” noting that such stories could create unnecessary uncertainty and erode public trust in security agencies.
Nyaga affirmed that Amin remains in office and continues to carry out his responsibilities lawfully and effectively.
The NPS also criticized the Daily Nation, highlighting that decisions about the tenure of senior security officials are strictly governed by law and official procedures. “No media outlet has the authority to determine the end of a public officer’s service,” the spokesperson emphasized.
The clarification follows speculation in some media outlets about potential changes in DCI leadership, with NPS urging the public and journalists to rely on verified official statements when reporting on sensitive security matters.
